Dark timber furniture

It’s time to show a little love to dark timber! It’s no secret that when it comes to interiors Australians have long had a love affair with lighter colour timbers like Oak, Ash and Beech.

But maybe it’s time to explore the dark side. I’m talking Walnut, teak and even black stained dark timber finishes.

Here are five great reasons why you should embrace the dark in your home.

A little touch of dark will actually complement light timbers

So you’ve got oak floorboards and and oak dining table…using an oak dining chair as well might feel like a bit too much of the same! Black timber finishes are the perfect way to break up all that light. You can introduce this in your home by using a black dining or occasional chair, or even a black timber base on your coffee table.

Ground your space

If you have lots of natural light in your home, opting for a light floor as well can sometimes make a room feel a bit pale and uninteresting when the sun hits it. Choosing a darker colour for your timber flooring will add a lovely richness to the space and will contrast nicely against white walls and a light coloured kitchen.

Add some character

Older homes with period features LOVE walnut furniture. It just adds a little more warmth and character than it’s lighter-toned cousins. And remember, even though you may have an older home, you can still keep your furniture pieces contemporary.

Looking for a little sophistication?

Where light coloured timber says ‘relaxed and laid back’, darker timber finishes scream sophistication… and who doesn’t want their home to feel a little fancy from time to time.

Warm things up with dark timber

Do you have a tiled floor? If so, you’ll know that some tiles can give off a slightly clinical feeling in your home. Walnut and teak furniture will help to create a warmer and more welcoming feeling in you space.
