alexandria home
relaxed australian style
Decorating this apartment in Alexandria was a real labour of love as it is my own home. My husband and I purchased this apartment off the plan in 2015 and patiently waited for two years until the build was complete and we were able to move in.
We were drawn to this particular development because there was a real emphasis on great design features and beautiful materials, including oak flooring, terrazzo tiles, black metal tapware, concrete ceilings and a gorgeous speckled Japanese tile splashback.
We just knew that these design features would provide such great inspiration for styling our home. The overall design scheme here is very much a combination of a relaxed Australian aesthetic with touches of California cool. We wanted to keep things light and bright, with lots of textured materials and touches of black here and there.
The living room includes a lowline sofa in an off white linen, paired with cushions in sage green, deep emerald, dusty pink and wheat gold. A textured grey woollen rug with a diamond pattern helps to anchor the space.
It was important to us to have a great entertaining space and the solid American Oak dining table offers just that, and also ties in nicely with the kitchen island in the same finish.
Quirky artworks from local and international artists add an element of fun and colour to the space while maintaining a relaxed vacation vibe.
The master bedroom has a much more luxurious feeling. We paired an upholstered storage bed with black bedside tables, and distinctive lamps featuring marble, glass and brass. The oversized floral artwork, a photograph of Australian native gum blossom, is the star attraction in this room. It’s palette of greens, pinks and greys provided colour and texture inspiration for the accessories in this space. A touch of greenery adds the final touch.
