Storage: How to make the most of it in a small space
4 March, 2019

Creating more storage space at home is something we’re all searching for, right? It doesn’t seem to matter how much storage we have, we can always use a little bit more.
Have you noticed that Marie Kondo is everywhere right now? The Japanese queen of decluttering has us tearing through our wardrobes and cupboards disposing anything that doesn’t ‘spark joy’. In theory, this is a great idea. But it’s not for everyone. Some of us like our ‘stuff’, we just need a more efficient way to organise it.
So when Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper contacted me to provide advice for an article on storage to be published in its Home lift-out, I was excited to share my tips on space saving solutions.
You can read the full article Top Secret Storage Ideas here. Or if you’re short on time, here’s a run down of some of the simple tips I provided for the article.
When it comes buying storage furniture, think before you buy. Sometimes a custom-made piece is only a little more expensive than an off-the-shelf solution. The beauty of going bespoke when it comes to furniture is that you end with something that meets your needs completely. You get to maximise the space you have.
Making your furniture choices multi-purpose is another great way to increase your storage space. This might be a bed with drawers in the base, which is the perfect space for extra pillows and blankets. It could also be a sofa with a chaise that lifts up to create the perfect hiding spot for books or unused decor items. It can even be as simple as a blanket box at the end you your bed.
