Living room styling secrets

living room styling

Whether it’s a space for watching TV, making conversation, or just simply relaxing, we spend a lot of time in our living rooms. Especially during the cosy cooler months. So it’s really important that you have a living room where you love to spend time. A space that works functionally, but also looks amazing.

SIZE IT UP

When styling your living room, it’s best to start by choosing the investment pieces like the sofa, coffee table and rug. Knowing which size sofa is the best option for your room can be a tricky task. Mark out on your floor at home the largest size lounge your room can handle and work backwards from there. You need to ensure you can still easily navigate around the space without feeling like the sofa is taking over the room.

A rug will help bring a warm and cosy element to your living room. The long edge of your rug should be at least as long as your sofa – a little longer is even better! And the front legs of the lounge should sit on top of the rug. If you have other occasional or armchairs in your living room, then you can place the front legs of those on the rug too. It will help to zone the space as one complete area.

WORK UPWARDS

Once you’ve decided on the larger pieces in your living room, it’s time to work upwards and add some accessories.

Cushions bring great personality to your living room and can easily be swapped out if you decide you want to change up the look. Keep things simple by choosing a palette of two colours. Popular colour pairs this autumn include navy and mustard, terracotta and dusty pale blue, and dark green and blush pink. Cushions also tend to look best in odd numbers – three on each sofa is the perfect number!
