Italian food inspiration for your kitchen

Italian Food Inspiration from Totti's Sydney

Cooking easy and delicious meals at home can be so much fun and we’re always looking for Italian food inspiration for our meals.

We love Italian food and drink. And we love sharing food with the people we love. One of the most wonderful things you can do in your home is cook, eat and share amazing food and drinks with your family and friends.

It’s a big part of our Australian way of life, whether for a special occasion or just whipping up something simple, wholesome and tasty to enjoy during the week. So our guest today on At Home with Lauren Keenan is Totti’s executive chef Mike Eggert to bring you some Italian inspiration for your kitchen.

The original Totti’s restaurant is in Bondi and they also have a restaurant in Sydney’s CBD. And Mike’s love of food and Italian food and wine in particular runs deep. It’s inspiring and that’s why we want to share some of his great stories with you.

So check out this interview with Mike Eggert here or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Mike Eggert’s Italian food inspiration

“I’ve always thought it was a fantastic cuisine. I love eating Italian and there have been fantastic Italian chefs in Sydney,” Mike told us on our home, lifestyle and interior design podcast.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to travel and have been to Italy 3 or 4 times. When you come away from eating in Italy, you have a new respect for how you should do food.

“Italian food is like a big warm hug. So much about Italian cuisine and culture is about acceptance, bringing people in and making them feel like part of the family and that’s what we try to replicate at Totti’s.

“It’s got to be about comfort, it’s got to be about what makes people feel good and if you’re not doing that you’re missing out on the best part.”

On the show, Mike recommends Italian and natural wine imported by his mate Georgia Di Maria’s Fun Wines. And for the record, we like to shop at Prince Wine Store in Sydney for their range of Italian (and amazing Aussie) wines and we buy online from VinoMofo for their interesting selections direct from makers at great prices.

And if you’re in Sydney, make a beeline for Totti’s restaurants for the most incredible puffy wood-fired bread and amazing Italian eats. And tell Mike we sent you!
